Getting you ahead of a spreading fire

It’s vital to know if your building’s fire protection compliance is falling short, and how to address these issues effectively. At Commercial Fire Protection, we help you to ensure the integrity of one of the most crucial fire protection measures of all – fire compartmentation.

By closely inspecting your compartmentation assets – partitions (walls), floors, ceilings, and fire doors – our team of BM Trada Q-Mark Scheme-certified fire engineers can establish where your compartmentation may not be compliant, and should be repaired or replaced.

In this way, we help you ensure your building continues to be legally compliant and insurable.

Expert insights for compartmentation compliance

Our team is trained to inspect all elements of compartmentation, both those that depend on traditional building methods, like brick, concrete, and concrete blocks, and those made from specialist fire-resistant materials.

Our engineers will focus on, amongst others:

  • Standards and certifications of materials, including British Standard BS 476 Part 22. This may require further testing, but our engineers are qualified to carry this out.
  • Combustibility of materials used – Our team will expect to see the use of substances like fire protection boards made of minerals like calcium silicate or plasterboard.
  • Penetrations – Damage to fire compartmentation over time – for example, by drilling holes to accommodate pipework, ventilation, heating, or cables, which can allow flames and smoke through.
  • Fire door condition – Worn or damaged fire doors, or those that have been repaired or maintained by non-certified individuals, may no longer meet the relevant standards of BS EN 1634 and BS 476, and so require repair or replacement.
  • Fixing the issues – Many compartmentation issues can be remedied with the proper use of fire stopping techniques, and our team will always explore this option in preference to replacement.
